How to Calculate Age from Date of Birth Online

You do not need a calendar or a calculator to work out someone's age. Use the online age calculator by following these simple steps.

1. Enter the date of birth: Click the Date of birth field and pick the date from the calendar, or type it in the format YYYY-MM-DD, such as 1995-03-15.
2. Check the calculation date: The Age at the date of field is set to today. Keep it for your current age, or choose another date to find the age on that day. Click Today to return to the current date.
3. Add the time of birth (optional): Open Add time of birth if you want the live seconds counter to start from the exact minute you were born.
4. Read your age: Your exact age appears right away in years, months, and days, followed by your age in other units, your next birthday, and some facts about your birth date.
5. Compare two people: Switch to Age difference, enter two dates of birth, and see who is older and by how much.

How Is Age Calculated in Years, Months and Days?

A person's age is the length of time between their date of birth and a chosen date. The calculator counts full years first, then the full months left over, and finally the remaining days. A birthday is reached on the same day and month each year, so a year is complete only when that day and month have arrived.

For example, imagine someone born on 15 March 1995. On 20 October 2026 they have completed 31 full years, because their 31st birthday was on 15 March 2026. From 15 March to 15 October is 7 more full months, and from 15 October to 20 October is 5 more days. Their age is therefore 31 years, 7 months, and 5 days.

Months have different lengths, so when the day of the month at the end is smaller than the day of birth, the calculator counts the days from the last completed month. If someone was born on the 31st and the current month is shorter, the last day of that month is used as the monthly milestone. This gives a consistent answer for every date.

Age in Months, Weeks, Days, Hours, Minutes and Seconds

Besides your age in years, the calculator shows how long you have lived in smaller units. Total months counts every completed month since birth. Total weeks and total days come from the exact number of days between the two dates, and hours, minutes, and seconds are calculated from that number of whole days.

These totals do not depend on the time you were born, so they are exact for whole days and approximate for the part of the current day. If you add your time of birth, the live counter calculates the seconds from that exact moment in your device's time zone and updates every second.

Calculate Age on a Specific Date

The Age at the date of field lets you calculate age on any date, not just today. Choose a past date to find out how old someone was at an event, or a future date to find out how old they will be.

• School and college admission: Many schools set an age limit as of a certain cut-off date. Enter that date to check whether a child meets the requirement.
• Jobs, exams, and eligibility: Some applications, competitive exams, and programs require a minimum or maximum age on a closing date.
• Insurance, retirement, and pensions: Check your age at a future date when planning policies, retirement, or benefits.
• Sports and competitions: Age categories are often based on age on a fixed date.
• Family history and records: Work out how old a relative was when an event happened.

For official purposes, always check how the organization defines age and which date it uses, because rules can differ from one institution or country to another.

Next Birthday and Birthday Countdown

The calculator shows the date of your next birthday, the day of the week it falls on, the number of days left, and the age you will turn. If your birthday is today, it tells you so. This is useful for planning a party, ordering a gift, or simply counting down the days.

To find the age gap between two people, switch to Age difference and enter both dates of birth. The result shows how many years, months, and days separate them, the total number of days between the two birthdays, and who is the older of the two. The order in which you enter the dates does not matter.

Leap Year Birthdays (29 February)

A leap year has 366 days and happens roughly every four years, adding 29 February to the calendar. People born on 29 February are sometimes called leaplings, and they have an actual birthday only in leap years. In other years this calculator treats 28 February as the birthday so that their age and their next birthday are always shown.

Different countries and organizations have different legal rules about when a leapling officially turns a year older, either on 28 February or on 1 March. If the exact day matters for an official purpose, check the rule that applies to you.

Day of the Week You Were Born and Your Zodiac Sign

The calculator also tells you the weekday of your birth date, such as a Tuesday or a Saturday, and the Western zodiac sign for that date. Zodiac sign dates are commonly given as fixed ranges, for example Aries from 21 March to 19 April, and some sources differ by a day, so a birthday close to the edge of a sign may be listed differently elsewhere. Zodiac signs are shown for fun and have no effect on the age calculation.

How Accurate Is This Age Calculator?

The calculation uses the standard international method, which counts full years, months, and days using the Gregorian calendar and takes leap years into account. It uses your device's current date when you leave the calculation date as today, so make sure your device's date and time are correct. Some cultures have traditionally counted age in other ways, so the result may differ from how age is reckoned in those traditions.
